The Shame of Shampoo

Many of you may have heard of the “No Poo” movement, and I have to say I’m a believer. Shampoo strips out the oils of your hair, depleting it of all the natural goodness which keeps your hair soft, silky, and shiny. Shampoo is also chalked full of harmful chemicals, and let’s face it, pretty expensive when it comes down to it.

I have been using my own homemade shampoo, conditioner, and hair spray now for over 7 months, and I love it! It’s super cheap to make and my hair is so much healthier. I have curly hair and only wash my hair 1-2 times a week. That may gross some of you out, but there’s really no need to be washing your hair every day.

But don’t take my word for it, put it to the test. Try going “pooless” for a month. It takes a few weeks for your hair to adjust, and I’ll admit it’s definitely going to take some getting used to. Not having a big lather with the shampoo, and not getting that immediate silky smooth feeling of conditioner is a big adjustment, but suck it up. You’re making a change that’s not only better for your hair, and pocketbook, but also for the environment. Saving a bunch of plastic bottles, riddled with toxins from the landfill.
