weekly picks_september 9

Hello world! It has been too long. Admittedly, this has been my worst blogging lag. Not to say that I wasn’t working on some things that I’m pretty darn proud of ***shameless plug – you should check out Kansas City Women in Technology***, but I definitely neglected my blogging. All of us at House of Femme took a bit of a summer break, but it’s all good because everyone needs a little time off. Regardless, I’m ready to get back into the swing of things…and what better way to do that than start a new series? I adore filling my loft with bright, fresh flowers every week. Sometimes, I pick these from the prairie flower garden that’s on my running trail and sometimes I buy them from the Vietnamese families at the City Market. Regardless, I dig finding the best “picks” of the season, and I have a similar mantra for music, movies and culture. In this new series, My Weekly “Picks”, I will be featuring my flower picks of the week along with what I can’t get enough of that week. Have something that you think is fantastic enough it should be featured? I’d love to check it out. Shoot me an email at alysmurfey@gmail.com.

My Weekly “Picks” – September 9th

Every time I walk into my apartment, the yellow sunflowers paired with bright colors fills me with a little happiness.

My Weekly “Pick” for this week: parasols. It has been unusually hot (as in 100 degrees hot in September). Decorative parasols get me swept up in the last of the summer weather…and I’m loving the bright colors of this newest addition to my apartment. I can’t wait to lay under it in the shade on my next picnic outing, which happens so often (not). Until then, I hung it in my loft next to my colorful paper lantern:
