As we move closer to the summer months, I’m sizing up my wardrobe and starting to get excited. Why? Well, because high-waisted apparel is definitely in for summer and that’s great news for a shorty like me. Being barely over 5 foot, it is often difficult to find clothes that don’t make me look stumpy or frumpy. High waist items accentuate the waist and are perfect for petite peeps, like myself. I rejoicewhen I see high-waist shorts, like these ones I spotted on the Urban Outfitters website.
But petites aren’t the only ones who benefit from this. Frankly every body type from tall and lanky to curvy can find flattering items in the high waist wear. Below I’ve highlighted three outfits from mysummer wardrobe:
I love how high waists can bring a certain classiness to an outfit and dress it up. Buttons are rampant in summer catalogs and I’ve been seeing an almost marine, nautical pattern in the look of shorts, skirts and pants. Pairing a high waisted skirt with a brown blazer and clutch, steps up the dressiness of the outfit.
The high waist hippie-esque pant makes its appearance this summer and I’ve seen them in a variety tropical colors to plain cream colors. Flowy high waist pants, like the one above that I snagged on sale from Anthrpologie, are great to couple with some fun, cork wedges.
High waist ballet skirts like the one above from American Apparel, are great additions to the wardrobe because they pretty much pair well with everything and are sure to flatter. Retro-looking tops with unique textures are in, accessorize with fun fedoras.
I have high hopes for summer. Follow my “Stylin’ 2K12 Summer” board on Pinterest to see my picks for urban summer style as the season simmers on.
